Neeru, Paras win Mumbai leg of Audi quattro Cup 2012

Mumbai: The duo of Neeru Singh and Paras Bhuta became the first team to qualify for the National final of the Audi quattro Cup 2012. In the season-opener hosted by Audi Mumbai at the Bombay Presidency Golf Club here on Saturday, Neeru and Paras garnered 41 stableford points to register a narrow victory and lay hands on the winners‘ trophy.

Ashok Goenka & Sanjeev Jagtiani finished second with a score of 40 stableford points while the team of UG Rao and Haggi Shivdasani finshed third with 39 stableford points. The top two teams qualified for the National final. In a first of its kind, KK Raman and Anil Thakur earned the wild card entry thorugh a draw of lot for qualification level where they await the scores of 13 other teams to secure a National final berth.

Presented by Audi Finance, the Mumbai leg saw over 100 participants trying to earn the coveted place in the final. In the various skills competition held alongside the main event, Murad Talib won the “Straightest Drive” prize on Hole No.5 and emerged as the proud winner of the Audi Experience where in the winner gets to use a chauffeur-driven Audi A7 on the weekend. Anil Kapur won the ‘Closest to the Pin” award on Hole No. 13 while Devang Sharma emerged as the winner in the “Longest Drive” contest on Hole No. 18.

The Audi quattro Cup tournament series, established in 1991, has become one of the most celebrated amateur golf tournaments in the world bringing together over 85000 golfers from 54 countries. The Indian circuit of Audi quattro Cup will visit 13 other cities making it a 14-leg series and would touch almost 1600 golfers in all.
Audi Pune will host the next leg of the event at the Oxford Golf and Country Club on Jan 28, 2012.
