Supreme power4.2 FSI quattro

The naturally aspirated 4.2 FSI quattro is a high-performance engine such as can be found in racing. It is an experience that enthrals all the senses: spontaneous throttle response, easy revving, hefty torque, prodigious power and a sonorous, voluminous sound.

The compact, hand-made V8 mid-engine generates 316 kW (430 bhp) and accelerates the Audi R8 Spyder from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. The top speed is 300 km/h. The mid-engine concept ensures a balanced load distribution and excellent handling properties.

At least 90 percent of the maximum torque is available between 3,500 and 7,500 rpm. The 4.2 FSI quattro reaches the top value of 430 Nm between 4,500 and 6,000 rpm.

Thanks to the latest 4-valve FSI technology, the Audi R8 Spyder 4.2 quattro gets more out of every drop of petrol. The common rail system injects fuel at pressures of up to 120 bar. The intense tumbling motion in the combustion chambers increases compression. Vacuum-actuated flaps in the intake ports cause the air to swirl, resulting in even more efficient combustion.

Ideal combination of dynamics and efficiency
The dry-sump lubrication gives the car a low centre of gravity and permits strong lateral acceleration. The forced oil pump operates in accordance with the load; it reduces fuel consumption by means of various suction and discharge phases. As further efficiency measures, the recuperation system which comes as standard recovers energy during braking, while systematic aluminium lightweight construction means that the 4.2 FSI quattro weighs just 216 kilograms.
